It's Back - CRA Direct Deposit 

May 16, 2025 -  Fusion members can once again complete a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) direct deposit enrolment through Fusion Digital Banking. 

Benefits:

  • Receive refunds and benefit payments faster and securely
  • Easy to sign up; minimal information required
  • Access to your money faster; no longer need to wait for the cheque to arrive in the mail and then get it processed.

Features:

  • Available to both retail and small business members
  • Available through all digital banking channels - online, iOS and Android apps
  • Members must have a relationship with the CU for at least 30 days before they are able to use the service. The account they wish to setup with direct deposit must be opened for at least 29 days.

Personal Payment Options:

  • Income tax refund
  • Goods and service tax/harmonized sales tax credit and any similar provincial and territorial payments.
  • Canada child benefit and any similar provincial territorial payments
  • Deemed overpayment of tax
  • Canada sickness benefit, Canada Recover benefit, and Canada recovery caregiving benefit

Small Business Payment Options:

  • Corporation income tax refund
  • Goods and services/harmonized sales tax refund
  • Refund or excise tax or other levies
  • Refund of payroll deductions
  • Canada emergency wage subsidy (CEWS)

*Note: As a business owner or delegated authority, you can start or update a direct deposit online or through your financial institution. To be eligible to enroll for CRA direct deposit for business, your business must have a valid 15-digit business number and one of the following CRA program accounts:

    • RT - Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax

    • RP - Payroll

    • RC - Corporate Income Tax

    • ZA - Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS)


Member Impacts/Considerations

  • CRA Direct Deposit File is transmitted to CRA weekdays, Monday to Friday.
  • Retail/Individual members must have a SIN and date of birth in DNA in order to proceed with CRA Direct Deposit.

Retail/Individual Digital Banking Validation

  • All fields are required to proceed.
  • First Name/Last name will be pre-filled and unable to be changed.
  • SIN (Social Insurance Number): must be entered as a 9-digit number. It will be validated against DNA once the transaction has been confirmed.
  • Date of Birth: must be entered MM/DD/YYYY or selected from the calendar. It will be validated against DNA once the transaction has been confirmed.
  • Validation occurs to ensure the authorization checkbox is selected.

Small Business Digital Banking Validation

  • All fields are required to proceed.
  • CRA Business Number: Must follow the rules XXXXXXXXXAAXX (15 characters where ‘X’ represents numbers and ‘AA’ represents either RT, RP, RC, or ZA).
  • Validation occurs to ensure the authorization checkbox is selected.
  • If two signatures are required on the account, then two signatures are also required to set up CRA Direct Deposit 


FAQs

You will only receive a cheque until your CRA direct deposit request has been processed by CRA. Once a direct deposit has been received a cheque will no longer be issued moving forward.
You can verify that the payment has been received by checking your banking statement on the account you used to sign up for direct deposit. Your payment amount will be deposited directly into the account. You can also confirm that the payment was sent by the CRA by logging into CRA's My Account.
Fraud prevention: The CRA or your financial institution will never send you an email, text or Interac e-transfer to a link asking for your personal information to receive your benefit payment or refund. These are scams and taxpayers should never respond to these fraudulent communications or click on any of the links provided. If you submit multiple requests to update your direct deposit information, the most recent enrolment you complete will become the account on file with the CRA. Direct deposits will only be made into one account, at one financial institution.
You will receive your CRA direct deposits into the most recent bank account the CRA has on file. Direct deposits will only be made into one account, at one financial institution. If you had CRA Direct Deposit set up at another Financial Institution and choose to set it up through your Fusion Banking profile it will then remove the initial Direct Deposit set up at the other Financial Institution and activate the new Direct Deposit.
Yes, two people may request their payments be deposited to the same account. Each individual will need to enroll for direct deposit using their own online banking login.
Individuals must have filed at least one income tax return in the past to be eligible to enroll for direct deposit with the Canada Revenue Agency. The account you are using for Direct Deposit must have also been set up for at least 30 days, be a Canadian Currency Account and a chequing or savings account.
